Dieter Grimm

Renowned German Constitutional Scholar, Former Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany

Dieter Grimm, born in 1937, is a renowned German constitutional scholar and professor of Humboldt University Berlin. His research fields include constitutional law, comparative constitutional law, constitutional history, nation-state constitutionalism, etc. From 1987 to 1999, he served as Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany. He was involved in the judgment of important cases such as " Riding in the Woods Case (Reiten im Walde) " and " Crucifix Case (Kruzifix) " . From 2001 to 2007, he served as Director of the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin; he was a visiting professor in Sapienza University of Rome, Italy ( 2000 ), Yale Law School ( 2001 ), Harvard Law School ( 2008 ), Faculty of Law, University of Toronto  ( 2004 ).
